Goran Bregovic: Dreams
June 29, 2005
Arizona Dream

This is from the soundtrack to Emir Kusturica’s 1993 film Arizona Dream. Bregovic wrote several excellent scores for Kusturica, including the 1995 Underground. He has that Balkan knack for combining dark humor with pessimistic fatalism and emotional vulnerability which sometimes yeilds great artistic results. This soundtrack also includes contributions from Iggy Pop and Johnny Depp.

I’m sending this out to Edwin, who asked recently about the Russian choral music in Kate Bush’s Hello Earth. This is not that, but it has a similar mood.

You can buy the Arizona Dream soundtrack here or here.

The choir in that particular Kate Bush tune is singing a traditional Georgian song called “Tsintsaqaro”. I have a lovely arrangement of it by a Group called Kavkasia.

Wow Blake, what a nice surprise. I am on vacation in the Outer Banks, far from civilization and culture and I stumbled upon a little coffee house/ internet cafe. Was just about to log off and remembered to check your site. Thank you (and thank you Quixie!) I knew you were the person to ask.

BTW - the people at Uglie Muggs coffe shop, Avon N.C. dig the Bregovic. I will dl it when I get back home Saturday.

Peace
